Staff Report

Six Delaware towns, including Milford, have signed onto a collaborative tourism effort with various communities on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. “Eat, Drink, Buy Art on Delmarva” is a regional campaign to promote downtown arts and culture districts. The initiative has launched a website, mobile app and a Facebook page to lists artists, art venues, restaurants and events in each area participating that can found at http://www.eatdrinkbuyart.com.

Downtown Milford Inc. (DMI) joined the group at the urging of the Delaware Division of the Arts. Director of DMI, Lee Nelson states that the collaboration has allowed Milford to increase its exposure across the region as visitors and locals to all 18 of the participating towns are able to see what Milford has to offer through collaborative promotions and marketing.

“It has been helpful to not only promote our town but also hear from the other partners about what people are saying about Milford,” said Nelson. “The partnership also helps us understand what other surrounding communities are doing to promote tourism and what has worked and not worked for them.”

Under the destination of Milford, DE the platform encourages visitors to “Stroll through the picturesque town of Milford, known as the River Town, Art Town, Home Town. Nestled on the banks of the Mispillion River, Milford has a thriving art community.” Among the attractions listed are professional art galleries, seven working artists’ studios, two dance schools and a music school. The site urges individuals to take in a theater or a music concert, drink gourmet coffee, feast at good restaurant and stroll the lovely river walk meandering through downtown. Fall events including the International Food Festival, Fall Riverwalk Market and Holiday Stroll are featured.

The website has been financed in part with State Funds from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority, an instrumentality of the State of Maryland and the Delaware Division of the Arts.
