On Thursday, November 12, Lulu Ross Elementary had their Annual Family Night.
For Lulu Ross Elementary, this is a chance to get students and parents involved in the school through activities other than school work. The school was packed with families from the Milford School District as they made their own games and enjoying ones that teachers had prepared.
“It is a relaxed atmosphere and a time where families can have fun at school,” said Lulu Ross Principal Cindy McKenzie. “They get to see their teachers in a new light and it makes families more comfortable to come in another time if they have questions or need help.”
This Family Night is the unofficial kickoff to National Education Week which is aimed at highlighting the importance of giving every child the opportunity of a great education. There was a dinner for families and a raffle which included community sponsorships. Families were also encouraged to bring perishable food items to help with the school’s Thanksgiving Food Drive that is held each year.
‘It can be difficult to get families into the school especially during the school day,” said McKenzie. “We want to afford them the opportunity to meet teachers and staff and get involved.”
