Troopers Investigate Bicyclist Crash-Milford

12The Delaware State Police is currently investigating a serious crash involving a bicyclist that occurred south of Milford. At approximately 5:07 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2015, Troopers responded to Coastal Highway (SR 1) and Argos Corner Road for a report of a bicyclist struck in the roadway. Police state that Joseph R. Bergman, 48 of Milford, was on his bicycle in the northbound lanes of Coastal Highway (SR 1) in the area of Argos Corner Road. At the time it was reported he was struck by an unknown dark colored or grey passenger vehicle traveling northbound that fled the scene. After the initial collision a second vehicle, a 2014 Hyundai Sante Fe, operated by Theodore M. Campbell, 46 of Milford, also northbound swerved to miss the bicyclist lying in the road and subsequently struck the bicycle. The impact with the bicycle caused minor damage to the front right side of the vehicle.

Joseph R. Bergman was wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket at the time of the collision. He was transported by Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper-2) to Christiana Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threating injuries and was released. Alcohol appears to be a factor on the part of the bicyclist.

Theodore M. Campbell was properly restrained was not injured as result of the collision.

Coastal Highway (SR 1) and Argos Corner road in the area of the crash was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. No charges have been filed at this time.
