DDA Announces Successful Nutcracker Ballet

Based on a story by E.T.A Hoffman,The Nutcracker and the King of Mice), featuring the music of Tchaikovsky and combined with original choreography by Delaware Division of the Arts winner, Michele Xiques, DDA brought this timeless classic to life at Seaford High School, December 5th and 6th. Dozens of volunteers spent many hours behind the scenes and a cast of over 40 dancers rehearsed and rehearsed, all working to get every detail and every step just right. All of their hard work paid off as the audience sat captivated from the first note of the familiar music to the final bows. From adorable young dancers in the party scene to the beautiful and elegant Sugarplum Fairy pas de deux, every moment on stage was a delightful display of grace, athleticism, creativity and holiday magic.

This year, DDA welcomed guest artist Jake Allison to dance the part of the Cavalier. Jake is a professional ballet dancer with over ten years of performing experience. He trained in Wilmington, Delaware with Pasha and Kristina Kambalov of First State Ballet Theatre. After graduating from FSBT’s Vaganova Syllabus Program, Jake joined FSBT as a company member and went on to perform principal roles in classical ballets including Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, as well as many contemporary works. Jake has also taught ballet technique classes throughout the Philadelphia area.

Dancing alongside, Jake was Katie Mae Fields as the Sugarplum Fairy. Katie is the daughter of Mark and Nancy Fields of Seaford, DE. A junior at Sussex Tech, she has been dancing since age 4 at First State Dance Academy and has been with Delaware Dance Alliance since its debut production of Twilight Ballet.

Delaware Dance Alliance makes its home at First State Dance Academy in Milford and is comprised of dancers from Milford as well as surrounding areas of Kent county, Sussex county and parts of Maryland. DDA has been bringing quality pre-professional ballet performances to Kent and Sussex counties since 2010 with such performances as Twilight, Pippi Longstocking, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Jazz Nutcracker and The Nutcracker Ballet.
