La Red Health Center opened its newest location in Milford on August 12 of this year, providing an additional option for Milford residents to receive healthcare. The official opening of the center coincided with National Health Center Week, a period when the contributions of community, migrant, homeless and public housing health centers who provide access to affordable healthcare is recognized.
“This is the third location we have opened since 2012,” said Kevin Loftus, Director of Development, Marketing and Communications. “The opening of this center was made possible by a 2015 New Access Point Grant Award by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Administration. The new site demonstrates our desire to expand and integrate services to meet the diverse health care needs of the growing population in Sussex County.”
La Red’s leaders say that they provide services to anyone who is in need of medical care. Although the organization began with a focus on low-income and Hispanic patients, they have expanded their care to assist those of all income levels and cultures. The center accepts all major insurances and patients are expected to pay on a sliding scale. Services offered at the site include internal medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, and behavioral health consultations.
“The new Milford site is expected to serve an estimated 1,400 patients,” said Brian Olson, CEO. “To reach that goal, the Milford site will leverage established health service delivery expertise, infrastructure and collaborative relationships, as well as be fully integrated with the health centers in Georgetown and Seaford.”
Dr. Seema Tayal, MD, MBA, will lead the center as it serves Milford residents. She is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and she is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Tayal takes a holistic approach to care and her special interests range from pediatrics, geriatrics and women’s health to preventative medicine and dermatology. She has authored and published numerous research papers and has been the recipient of multiple awards.
“It is a great honor and my pleasure to serve the medical needs of the underserved population of Milford,” Dr. Tayal said. “My team and I hope to make a significant impact in improving the health of Sussex County residents.”
Nieves Zaldivar, M.D., F.A.A.P., is also working at the Milford center. Dr. Zaldivar has over 30 years’ experience as a clinician and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is coming to La Red from Nemours Pediatric Clinics in Milford where she was a Staff Physician. She has received numerous honors as well as authoring many papers over the years.
“I am excited to bring my extensive experience as a clinican and as an administrator to La Red Health Care Center,” Dr. Zaldivar. “I believe that the diverse children of Sussex County deserve the very best healthcare.”
At La Red, each patient has a direct relationship with a medical provider who coordinates a cooperative team of healthcare professionals, including integrated behavioral health. The team takes collective responsibility for the patients care and arranges for additional medical services with other providers as necessary. The center accepts most major insurance plans, Medicare and Medicaid, and services are available for patients regardless of their ability to pay.
Initially, the center will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 AM until 5 PM and is accepting new patients. For more information or to make an appointment, call 302-855-1233 or visit them online at www.La Redhealthcenter.org.
