During the 2016 Miss Milford Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, January 30 Rebecca Gasperetti was crowned Miss Milford. The Miss Milford Scholarship Organization is a local organization that helps young women in “developing confidence, self-esteem, poise and scholarships. Their focus is similar to the Miss America Organization and is based on the four points of the crown that represent style, service, scholarship and success.
Crowned Miss Milford for 2016, Rebecca Gasperetti impressed the judges with her performance of Mein Herr Marquis, composed by Austrian and German Johann artist Strauss II. For this performance Gasperetti also took home the Talent award for the evening. As a self-proclaimed rookie to the pageant world, Rebecca was overwhelmed the moment her name was called as the 2016 Miss Milford and the crown placed upon her head.
“It was an incredible experience and I was surprised to win since I am so new to this,” said Gasperetti. “The hardest part will be leaving the girls that I just met, there were so many that had great talents.”
A senior at the University of Delaware, Gasperetti is working on her degree in English with a concentration in Professional Writing. These skills will assist her ability to expand her platform of Homelessness Prevention and Awareness. “I hope to have a discussion about the causes of homelessness and how we can prevent it as a community.” The Homeless Planning Council of Delaware, an independent statewide non-profit, estimates 6,000 individuals who are homeless in Delaware throughout an entire year.
“My biggest goal is to give a voice to the voiceless,” said Gasperetti. “I will become as involved as possible.”
The 2015 Miss Milford, Brooke Mitchell, was in attendance to crown Gasperetti as the new Miss Milford. Mitchell was crowned Miss Delaware at the state pageant last June and represented Delaware at the Miss America Pageant last September. Mitchell will continue to expand her platform of volunteerism through June of this year as Miss Delaware.
“It has been a whirlwind,” said Mitchell. “As Miss Delaware I have partnered with the Department of Agriculture, State Volunteerism and other groups to spread volunteerism throughout Delaware.”
Handing down her Miss Milford crown to Gasperetti, Mitchell is excited to see the work that the new Miss Milford has planned. “It was a great title for me and I am glad to pass it down,” said Mitchell.
Rebecca Gasperetti will serve as Miss Milford for one year and compete for the title of Miss Delaware in June.
