MHS DECA Wins Awards at State Convention

Staff Report

Seven members of the Milford DECA won major awards at this year’s state convention. DECA is an international association of high school, college students, and teachers of marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service. This organization prepares leaders and entrepreneurs for careers and education in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other business areas.

This year’s winners include four first place performances by Kyle Maloney (Accounting), Lexi Daino (Financial Consulting), Hunter Frey (Professional Selling), and Kyle Strassle (Hospitality Professional Selling). Two students had second place performances: Brea Wells (Hospitality and Professional Selling) and Tyler Timson (Sports and Entertainment Marketing) with Ali Akram (Finance) rounding out the winners with a strong third place finish. These students now advance to Nashville for the National DECA Competition.

This year’s team was advised once again by Mrs. Emory who was honored for her 20th year of service at the event. In addition, Mr. Tyler Timson was elected State DECA Secretary for the State of Delaware. If businesses and individuals are interested in helping sponsor this team to help send them to Nashville, they can contact Mrs. Judy Emory at jemory@msd.k12.de.us or at 302-424-7012.
