Major Construction to Start on Route 113 near Lincoln

A major rehabilitation project was awarded to A-Del Construction Company of Newark, Delaware in the amount of $9,826,461.01 to remove and replace deteriorating concrete pavement on Route 113 southbound, from Fitzgerald Road to Staytonville Road will begin later this month, and continue for most of the summer.

Set to begin on Monday, February 22, the work will be performed during daytime hours from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. During construction, the disruptions to traffic flow will be minimal, because diverted onto the northbound roadway using specially constructed crossovers to maneuver around the work area.

Southbound traffic on Route 113 will be narrowed to one lane and re-routed to a lane on northbound Route 113. Northbound US113 will also be narrowed to one lane within the work zone. US113 southbound traffic will be diverted back to the new pavement and two lanes each direction will be restored by Memorial Day. The remaining work to pave the asphalt shoulders and construct new drainage swales will be performed under daily lane closures.

Nearby residents should also be aware that on or about Tuesday, March 15, the contractor will begin using equipment to break up the existing concrete with a process of hammers and is anticipated to last for a duration of three days. To lessen the noise at night to residents, this work will also occur during the day from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Clendaniel Road, W. Hudson Pond Road and Staytonville Road intersecting with US113 on the western side of US113 will be closed and motorists must follow the signed detours. Halflinger Road, E. Hudson Pond Road and Fleatown Road intersecting with US113 on the eastern side of US113 will be right turn only.

The following are the signed detour routes:

1) Motorists on the western side of U.S. Route 113 are directed to use N. Union Church Road to Route 16 to access U.S. Route 113.

2) Motorists on the eastern side of U.S. Route 113 are directed to use N. Old State Road to Route 16 to access U.S. Route 113.

3) Motorists traveling northbound on U.S. Route 113 attempting to access the western side of U.S. Route 113 are directed to use either:

a. Route 16 to North Union Church Road; or
b. Johnson Road to North Old State Road to Route 16 to North Union Church Road.

4) Motorists traveling northbound on U.S. Route 113 attempting to access the eastern side of U.S. Route 113 are directed to use Johnson Road to North Old State Road. However, northbound right turns will be maintained at Johnson Road, Haflinger Road, East Hudson Pond Road, and Fleatown Road.

5) Motorists traveling southbound on U.S. Route 113 attempting to access the western side of U.S. Route 113 are directed to use either:

a. Route 16 to North Union Church Road; or
b. Fitzgerald Road to North Union Church Road to Route 16.

6) Motorists traveling southbound on U.S. Route 113 attempting to access the eastern side of U.S. Route 113 are directed to use Route 16 to North Old State Road.

This work is being initiated by DelDOT as a part of its Pavement and Rehabilitation Program, which maintains the quality and safety of Delaware roadways.
