Coastal Kids Consignment Sale, April 9-10

23Staff Report

Coastal Kids Consignment events bring together hundreds of local families hoping to sell, shop and save on kids items and also support local charities by donating a portion of the unsold items at the end of the event. This year financial and in-kind donations will be distributed to Communities in Schools of Delaware and local shelters.

Vicki Burns, owner of Coastal Kids Consignment, began the business in 2008 after she saw a need for a safe and family friendly environment for local families to sell and purchase items for their kids. Raising a 5-year-old son herself at the time, Burns knew first hand how quickly kids outgrow their clothes, toys and baby gear and the expense associated with purchasing new items every few months. In 2010 the businesses that originally began in Salisbury, MD expanded its reach into Delaware. This semi-annual event will take place for two days at Milford Central Academy, located at 1021 N. Walnut Street. In addition to clothing for infant to juniors and maternity for the spring/summer season, the event will also include shoes, toys, baby equipment, bikes, books, cradles, cribs, diaper bags, kids furniture, games, outdoor play, sporting equipment and strollers.

“By being a part of this event you are helping families in your own community,” commented Burns. “It gives so many people an opportunity to repurpose items that their own kids quickly grow.”

The event first focuses on families that want to become sellers at the event. Cleaning out their attics, toy boxes, closets and garages, individuals sell their items with Coastal Kids and earn up to 70% of the sales price. Participants sign up to be a seller on the event website, print tags for their items using the easy to use online software then bring tagged items to the location of the sale. Sellers are able to decide their own prices on their items and do not have to be present to sale. Registered sellers can view the sales progress of their items online and will receive a check for their sold items within 10 days of the end of the event. Unsold items can be picked up after the sale or they can stay tagged and brought to a future Coastal Kids sale. If sellers do not want the unsold items back, Coastal Kids will donate the items to a chosen charity on behalf of the seller who will receive a donation receipt.

If interested in selling, consignors should register to sell prior to April 6th via the Coastal Kids website, The event will be held on Saturday, April 9th from 11am to 4pm and Sunday, April 10th from 10am to 2pm at the Milford Central Academy, located at 1021 N. Walnut Street in Milford. Shopping bags are available for use at the event. Strollers are permitted.
