Under his leadership, Dover Federal Credit Union has grown from an asset size of $40 million to over $440 million with a membership of more than 45,000 members. David’s commitment and passion to Dover Federal has largely contributed to the advancements and growth that have positioned Dover Federal to be the State of Delaware’s largest credit union.

A measure of Mr. Clendaniel’s dedication to the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People”, is evident in both his employee engagement, his member commitment and the community organizations he’s served on while serving as CEO and representing Dover Federal. During his tenure, David has been extremely active in working with Delaware’s Congressional Delegation on credit union legislation and regulation, serving on the Legislative Committee of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU), the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Federal Credit Union Subcommittee, and on the Research Council for the Filene Research Institute. His leadership has been influential in earning Dover Federal the following honorable recognitions and awards: 2015 Air Force Credit Union of the Year, Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce (CDCC) Outstanding Partnership award, Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Award, DE Credit Union League Excellence in Education Award, Kent Economic Development Partner Award, CDCC Corporation of the Year in addition to the America Saves Excellence of Savings Designation award.

Mr. Clendaniel’s commitment to the community is not only reflected in the partnerships supported by Dover Federal but also his personal involvement with organizations such as the CenDel Foundation, where he was a founding Board Member and served as past President; Past Chairman of the Central DE Chamber of Commerce; Board Member of the Greater Dover Committee; Chair of the American Heart Association Southern DE Heart Ball and Rotary. While dutifully serving Dover Federal Credit Union, Mr. Clendaniel has also served as a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia Credit Union Council, Executive Board of Directors for USO Delaware, Honorary Commander for the 436th Operations Group, coached and officiated local youth sports and was named to the Delaware State University Business College Hall of Fame.

Thanks to his commitment, Dover Federal is well positioned for its next phase of leadership. The Board of Directors is currently exercising its succession plan, and conducting a search for Clendaniel’s successor.
