Steve Twilley - DMIStaff Report

The Board of Directors of Downtown Milford, Inc. has named Steve Twilley as its new executive director, effective September 1st.

A Milford resident for nearly 30 years, Twilley has an extensive background in non-profit organizational management, public relations, marketing and funds development. He is an active volunteer with and a past president of Second Street Players at Riverfront Theater, located at the heart of downtown Milford, serving on its Board of Directors for more than 15 years. Most recently he served as executive director of the Lewes Senior Center. Lee Nelson, DMI’s executive director since 2011, retired in July.

“We are excited to have someone of Steve’s experience and enthusiasm to bring a new perspective to DMI and our mission of promoting and advancing Milford’s Downtown,” said SaraKate Hammer, president of the DMI Board of Directors.

Twilley’s primary responsibilities will be to advocate for and build awareness of DMI’s goals and activities, and to work closely with all of DMI’s many partners and stakeholders to build upon the civic, commercial and cultural development of Milford’s Downtown. He is already working with volunteers and merchants on two of DMI’s upcoming fall events: Eat in the Street on Sept. 18 and the International Food Festival on Oct. 9.

“Downtown Milford is such a special place and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and passionate group of business owners, civic leaders, volunteers and neighbors,” Twilley said. “A vital and economically strong downtown is imperative to the success of Milford as a whole. In the coming weeks and months I will be visiting every business throughout our downtown, to introduce or reacquaint myself, or see longtime friends, and learn more from each of them about what we can do together to build upon Milford’s many successes and opportunities.”

“With Milford’s new Downtown Development District designation and the energy created by the Rivertown Rebirth Plan, Milford is poised to take those important next steps to even more fully revitalize our downtown,” Twilley said. “I’m excited to be a part of that, both as a longtime Milford resident and now with DMI.”

Downtown Milford Inc. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization continually promoting the civic, commercial and cultural development of Milford, Delaware’s historic central business district. In 2008, DMI was recognized as one of Delaware’s Main Street programs and received national Main Street accreditation in 2009 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. DMI has maintained accreditation each year since then. Its offices are located at 207 S. Walnut Street in Downtown Milford.
