The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford will celebrate the 10th Annual Holiday Auction & Tastes of Milford on Thursday, November 17 at the Rookery North located at 6152 S. Rehoboth Blvd. in Milford, from 6 to 9pm.
The concept of the event is similar to chamber business mixers and several auction events held throughout the state annually, where individuals walk around, taste a sample of a local eatery, talk with the vendors, bid on auction items, network, socialize and continue mingling until the silent auction closes and the live auction begins. Auctioneer Dave Wilson will be returning for the 10th year.
“The 2016 Holiday Auction & Tastes of Milford Committee hopes attendees leave knowing they helped out two wonderful organizations- The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford and the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club,” said Jo Schmeiser, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford. “…and that they have a vehicle full of holiday auction items, and that they have so much fun they look forward to the 11th Annual Holiday Auction & Tastes of Milford.”
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club. A staple in the Milford community for several decades, the Boys & Girls Club celebrated their sixth year in their new location off Airport Road in January. Programs at the Club are geared toward helping kids develop into productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The Milford Club is aimed at changing the lives of not only the children who attend every day but also their families and the community at large.
“I’m excited and grateful that the Milford Chamber of Commerce has selected the Milford Boys & Girls Club as their beneficiary for the 2016 Holiday Auction and Tastes of Milford event,” said Danny Vezmar, President of the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors. “The Milford Chamber has a great history of providing support to local organizations, and we are pleased to be a part of the event this year. Support from the local community is critical in helping the Boys & Girls club continue our mission to inspire and enable all young people realize their full potential.”
In addition to providing daily guidance and mentoring, the Club offers structured programming throughout the year which has supported improved academic performance and attendance of Milford Club kids in local elementary, middle and high schools. According to Director Tod Van Eyken, the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club provides over $46,000 per year in financial scholarships, which is 5% of their annual budget. In an effort to establish the Milford Club as a community center in the Greater Milford Area, in addition to serving school-aged children, the Club has recently expanded its facility and services to include a full size fitness center, adult basketball and pickleball leagues and water aerobic classes. The Richard Y. Johnson Aquatic Center is also home to the Milford High School Buccaneers Swim Team, the Club’s own Milford Marlins Swim Team and is the only Boys & Girls Club in Delaware to offer swimming scholarships through the Michael Phelps Foundation.
The Chamber is currently accepting donation items starting at minimum value of $25. They are also looking for businesses to join Bayhealth Medical Center, BK Rentals and i.g. Burton as Corporate Sponsors. Several other sponsorships are also available.
Holiday Auction & Tastes of Milford event tickets are on sale, $20 in advance and $25 the night of the event. The Chamber encourages individuals to buy tickets in advance, as the event is usually sold out.
