Monday, October 24, the Milford Del-One branch celebrated their tenth year at 100 Credit Union Way. Although the credit union has had a branch in Milford since 1998, the Credit Union Way location has only been there for 10 years.
Del-One was established as Delaware Highway Federal Credit Union in 1960 to serve employees of the Delaware State Highway Department. In 1967, they expanded their service to include all state employees and changed their name to Delaware State Employees Federal Credit Union. In 1991, they merged with Delaware Central Federal Credit Union and, in 1995, changed their name to Delaware Federal Credit Union. They became Del-One Federal Credit Union in 2011 and Del-One Foundation in 2014.
“We offer a wide variety of products and services, including interest bearing checking accounts, instant-issue debit cards, online and mobile account access, 24/7-member service center and so much more,” Ms. Rash said. “We have Christmas and Vacation club accounts, mortgage and home equity products, shared branching, deposit insurance and youth accounts as well.”
Credit unions are not-for-profit, community-oriented institutions owned by the members, not stockholders like banks. Since they are not-for-profit, income earned above the cost of operations may be returned to the members in the form of dividends, low-interest rates on money borrowed or invested in additional products and services that benefit the membership. Instead of bank stockholders, member-owners have the right to vote on decisions effecting the credit union. Also, a credit union Board of Directors consists of volunteers who generously give their time and leadership to help bring financial services and products to the credit union members.
“Del-One FCU, Delaware’s Premier Credit Union, has won the coveted Reader’s Choice Award for Best Credit Union for the past five years in a row, voted for by our members,” Ms. Rash said. “In addition, Del-One has been honored as the Top Workplace from the News Journal’s Top Workplace awards for the last five years as well. Del-One employees complete a survey measuring qualities such as a company leadership, communication, career opportunities, working environment, managerial skills, pay and benefits.”
Del-One has a community charter in Milford that allows anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the City of Milford automatically qualifies for membership at Del-One FCU. The credit union will also be holding a Business Mixer on Tuesday, October 25 from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. The October 24 event is open to the public but the mixer is only open to businesses. Any business who wishes to attend must RSVP by calling 302-739-4496. No reservations are necessary for the Open House on October 24. For more information on the services offered by Del-One, call 302-739-4496 or visit www.del-one.org.
