Stormin’s Turkey Giveaway Goes Statewide

Staff Report

For more than thirty years Norman Oliver has led an effort in Wilmington to organize a holiday turkey giveaway to assist families and seniors.

“Last year we gave away 3000 turkeys and fed over 30,000 people but that only scratched the surface of those who are hungry in our state and feeling the pain of poverty and misfortune,” said Oliver. “Without caring people like you it is not possible for this annual tradition to continue.”

Once again this year Oliver took the effort statewide with a goal of providing 3,500 families with turkeys in Wilmington, New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties. In conjunction with the local branches of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, turkeys were distributed on Tuesday, November 22.  Leroy A. Tice of Milford provided 100 turkeys for families at the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club.

“Without caring people like you it is not possible for this annual tradition to continue,” said Tice, as he helped deliver turkeys to Milford Boys & Girls Club families.

“For more than three decades, Our Youth Inc. and Nor Enterprises have fed thousands of families and seniors for the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Oliver. “This year we were able to take this effort statewide again because of the support of numerous companies and organizations.”

Each year the number of supporters continues to grow and this year, in addition to Food Lion, it includes the Farnan Law Firm, the Jefferson Awards Foundation, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, Charter School of Wilmington Jefferson Council, Leroy A.
