Bayhealth Nurse Shane Wins Peer Award

22Staff Report

Bayhealth is proud to announce Adrianne Shane, MSN, RN, as the most recent recipient of the 1A Peer Award at Bayhealth Kent General. Shane received the award based on nominations from her coworkers on 1A. According to her coworkers, Shane is the helper of all helpers with an infectious smile who is truly a patient advocate.

Shane has worked on 1A for six years. She chose nursing when she needed to choose a career pathway in high school, and it ended up being the right decision for her. “I have a passion for the health and wellness of others. I love interacting with our patients and working with them at the bedside,” Shane said. “That’s why even though I’ve completed my master’s degree, I haven’t necessarily used it because I love working with patients and educating others.” Shane is a preceptor to new staff and works as a relief charge nurse on the unit.

Shane’s peers had quite a bit to say about their coworker in terms of how she works with her patients and team members. Whenever someone feels like they’re falling behind, “Super Nurse” Shane always comes to the rescue. She’s a great preceptor and a fantastic team player. Shane’s coworkers see her as someone who always does the right thing, noting she’s in the right field. In fact, one nominator wrote they want to be like Shane.

1A is a 28-bed medical surgical unit at Bayhealth Kent General; the unit cares for adult patients. The 1A Peer Award is given twice a year and recognizes service excellence and exceptional teamwork. Staff on 1A nominates peers for teamwork and patient care, and the honoree is chosen based on the reasons why the peer was nominated.

“I love where I work and the people I work with. We have a great team here with a good system and leadership. I don’t know if I’ll ever leave this unit,” Shane said. “I appreciate that my coworkers nominated me. The work we do here is so gratifying, especially when a patient says thank you and hugs you for the care they received.”
