DE Turf Sports Complex just north of Milford on Bay Road is on schedule to open in Spring 2017. The complex will feature 12 turf fields designed for field hockey, lacrosse, soccer and similar sports. The organization has entered into a partnership with Highwater Management, a division of SoDel Concepts, to provide food and beverage for the concession stands at the new complex.
“We plan to offer general concession stand operations during tournaments on the weekend and potentially for practices through the week,” Cole Bradour, General Manager of Highwater Management, said. “In the summer, we can provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for week-long camps. One thing we are trying out with DE Turf is a “tailgating menu.” With three days’ notice, we can cater your tailgate at the facility with breakfast, lunch or dinner options. There is a minimum 15-person requirement for the service.”
Mr. Bradour said that there will be a main kitchen and three concession stands at the complex, but there is not a plan for a full-service restaurant at the present time. Highwater is currently seeking employees for the complex, including concession workers, concession stand managers, food runners, kitchen staff and kitchen managers.
“Our qualifications are very minimal,” Mr. Bradour said. “We start hiring at the age of 14 and for a lot of people hired, this will be their first job. We would like some restaurant experience for our kitchen manager position, but it is not a deal breaker if someone seems to be a good fit for that position. We are hiring now for these positions.” Mr. Bradour said that Highwater Management and SoDel Concepts are reputable companies with locations throughout Kent County, Sussex County and beyond.
One of the focuses at SoDel Concepts and Highwater Management is to hire local residents whenever possible. Many of those who begin working for the company are able to move up in the organization as well.
“We hire, train and usually our staff will work with us through their high school career and eventually move on to work in our catering company, Plate Catering, or one of our nine, soon to be ten, restaurant locations,” Mr. Bradour said. “There is currently an assistant manager at one of the restaurants who started his career for Highwater Management at ‘Sports at the Beach’ many years ago.” Mr. Bradour said that anyone who is willing to work hard, be reliable consistent and respectful is eligible for promotion. He said that anyone who displays those traits can find themselves moving up in the organization fairly quickly.
SoDel Concepts operates restaurants such as Papa Grande’s in Lewes and Rehoboth, Matt’s Fish Camp in Bethany and Lewes, as well as Fihs On, Catch 54 and Lupo Italian Kitchen. Highwater Management offers food service management as well as restaurant consulting services as a division of SoDel Concepts. The company also has a food truck, Big Thunder, Plate Catering and a charity, Sodel Cares. The company was started by the late Matt Haley, who died in a motorcycle crash in India in 2014. After his death, his staff continued Mr. Haley’s legacy, keeping his restaurants operational under the direction of Scott Hammerer who is now President of SoDel Concepts.
Anyone who wishes to apply for positions at DE Turf can email a resume to Cole@highwatermanagement.com or apply online at sodelconcepts.com/employment.
