Staff Report State Reps. Harvey Kenton, Bobby Outten, Charlie Postles & Dave Wilson and State Sen. Gary Simpson are hosting the community meeting on Wednesday, March 8 beginning at 6 pm at the Carlisle Fire Hall.
The governor’s appearance is part of an ongoing series of “Budget Reset” events the chief executive is attending to speak with Delawareans about the state’s budgetary challenges. Current projections show a $350 million gap between expected obligations and anticipated revenue for the next fiscal year that begins July 1st.
Before leaving office in January, former Gov. Jack Markell presented a plan to close that gap through steps that included an increase in taxes and shifting more state expenses to the local level. Those proposals included increasing the percentage of costs local residents would have to cover for new school construction. Gov. Carney will be presenting his own proposals to legislative budget writers later this month.
Wednesday’s meeting provides an opportunity for citizens to shape those suggestions.
