On Friday, March 10, supporters of the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club filled Milford Bowling Lanes in order to raise money for the organization. The event has grown significantly over the past few years, becoming one of two major fundraisers The Club hosts each year.
Proceeds from the event will be used to enhance and expand the educational, athletic and character building programs offered by club leaders to local children. In addition to providing daily guidance and mentoring, the Club offers structured programming throughout the year which has supported improved academic performance and attendance of Milford Club kids in local elementary, middle and high schools.
According to Director Tod Van Eyken, the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club will provide over $95,000 this year in financial scholarships, which is over 6% of their annual budget. Van Eyken stated that the Annual Fund Campaign assists local families by creating some form of financial assistance for more than seventy percent of the children currently enrolled in the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club.
Celebrating nine years in their new location off Airport Road in Milford, the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club has increased its efforts to establish the Milford Club as a community center in the Greater Milford Area. In addition to serving school-aged children, the Club offers services that include a full size fitness center, adult basketball and pickleball leagues and water aerobic classes. The Richard Y. Johnson Aquatic Center is also home to the Milford High School Buccaneers Swim Team, the Club’s own Milford Marlins Swim Team and is the only Boys & Girls Club in Delaware to offer swimming scholarships through the Michael Phelps Foundation. These community services are made available to Greater Milford Area residents year-round through support from fundraising events including the Bowl-A-Thon.
