Milford FFA Attends the 87th State Convention

During the week of March 9 there were over 500 FFA members from all over the state that came together at Delaware State University to attend the 87th Delaware FFA State Convention. Milford High School brought a total of 25 FFA members to the convention where they participated in various competitions and leadership opportunities.

On March 9, Milford FFA members competed in multiple Career Development Events (CDE) or contests as well as toured the different agricultural facilities that Delaware State University has to offer. That evening five students earned the highest degree they can receive at the state level. Students who received their State Degree were Ty Cartwright, Sage Culver, Patrick Donovan, Amanda Nordberg, and Megan Stevenson.

Along with receiving her state degree Amanda Nordberg also won a Proficiency Award for having an outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience project in the area of Swine Entrepreneurship. Celine Lester won a second place Proficiency Award in Agriculture Mechanics Repair and Maintenance and Alison Nordberg won second place Proficiency Award in Swine Placement.

On Friday March 10, students participated in leadership workshops put on by state officers from all across the country as well as a workshop from the 2016-2017 National FFA President, David Townsend. The results of the Career Development Events were announced Friday afternoon as several teams and individuals received awards.
The Parliamentary Procedure Team, comprised of Melina Hudson, Patrick Donovan, Rebeca Castaneda-Nava, Cassy Miller, Jaineil Johnson, and Sage Culver placed first in their competition. The team will be moving on to the Big-E at the regional level as well as Indianapolis to compete at the National FFA Convention in October.

 

 

In the Prepared Public Speaking CDE, Brittany Eichenberg placed 3rd. Wendy Lara placed 6th in Extemporaneous Speaking CDE. The Milk Quality and Products CDE team, consisting of  Torre Blakney (8th place individually), Alison Nordberg, Bridget Hufnagel, and Victoria Donovan, placed 5th overall. The Agriculture Sales team, consisting of Curtis Sharp, Dalton Nordberg, Steven Hughes, and Jacob Wiley, placed 7th as a team. Milford’s Sage Culver was elected as a 2017-2018 Delaware County Representative. Her duties will include helping the Delaware FFA State Officers during conferences and activities that will take place throughout the coming year.
