Arrested In Connection With Hit And Run Collision

 

On April 3, 2017 at approximately 2100 hours, Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to an accident that occurred on Old Shawnee Rd in the area of Donovan St. It was learned that one of the vehicles was traveling westbound on Old Shawnee Rd and the other vehicle was allegedly backing out of a driveway onto Old Shawnee Rd. It was alleged that the vehicle backing out of the driveway backed out very quickly and struck the front left side of the vehicle traveling westbound on Old Shawnee Rd. According to police, investigation revealed that the vehicle that was traveling westbound on Old Shawnee Rd pulled over on the side of the road and the other vehicle allegedly stopped at first but then fled from the scene without reporting the incident. The operator of the vehicle that fled the scene was identified as Sara Elkins, 37 of Milford, DE. A warrant was obtained for Elkins in reference to the incident.

On April 7, 2017, Elkins turned herself into Milford Police Department. She was charged with Leaving The Scene Of A Property Collision Accident, Failure To Report A Collision To Police Agency On Public Highway, and Improper Backing. Elkins was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court 2. Elkins was released on $150.00 unsecured bail. She was order to appear at a later date in Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.
