The newly formed Milford Hospitality Association, a community of business owners who want to work together to improve Milford, will hold their first event on Saturday, May 6 from 2 to 5:30 PM. The First Annual Julep Jaunt, planned in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby, encourages people to wear their big hats and win prizes at various locations in downtown Milford.
“This is a fun celebration that will be taking place at Abbott’s Grill, Arena’s and Park Place,” Lauren Bigelow, Sales and Marketing Ninja at Mispillion River Brewing, said. “Each of the bars will be celebrating the Kentucky Derby in their own way. We’ll have hat contests, games and drink specials. Participants can purchase the Julep Jaunt Mug at different locations.” The event is also being hosted by Cat Perfetti of Delaware Branding.
As part of the event, Abbott’s Grill will be hosting a variety of games and the “Best Beer Belly in Milford” contest while Arena’s will hold the Delaware Branding Company “Best Derby Hat” contest. There are also contests and Kentucky Derby themed events planned at Park Place.
T-shirt are available at Delaware Branding for $15 and the commemorative mug is $20. Anyone who purchases a mug receives $3 mint juleps at participating locations as well as discounts during the bar crawl. For each mug sold, $10 goes to support the efforts of the Greater Milford Hospitality Association.
“The group was started to foster collaboration relationships between Milford small businesses for the benefit of the local community,” Ms. Bigelow said. “Members of the group include Lifecycle, Arena’s, Abbott’s Grill, Sling With Me, Delaware Branding Company, Park Place and Mispillion River Brewing. All members will be involved in some way with the Julep Jaunt.” Ms. Bigelow said the organization is open to any business in Milford and interested businesses can email her at email@example.com for more information.
The organization hopes to meet once a month to discuss business-related issues and host events throughout the year. The group hopes to promote businesses that may not be located on Walnut Street as some owners feel as if locations on Northwest and Northeast Front Street as well as those on Washington Street are not included in some of the events planned in the downtown area. Milford Hospitality Association is hoping to create events that will expand past the main street in town and include more of the small businesses Milford has to offer.
Ms. Bigelow said that there is a Facebook event for the Julep Jaunt that will be updated often. Anyone who wants more information on the event can email her or watch for updates on Facebook.
