Council Sworn in at Reorganization Meeting

By Terry Rogers

On Monday, May 1, Milford City Council held their annual Reorganization Meeting. At the meeting, Councilmen Christopher Mergner, James Burk, Douglas Morrow and James Starling, Sr. were sworn in for two year terms. Councilman James Burk defeated challenger John Bechtold in an April election. Mr. Burk received 104 votes, or 79 percent, of the vote compared to Mr. Bechtold’s 27 votes or 21 percent. Councilman Burk represents Ward 2.

City Manager Eric Norenberg read the results of the April 22 election and explained that Councilmen Mergner, Morrow and Starling were unopposed, canceling the need for an election in Wards 1, 3 and 4.

“Congratulations to Jamie for his win in the recent election,” Mayor Bryan Shupe said. “We have come a long way over the past few years and I know that growth will continue. The future of Milford is very bright and I look forward to continuing the efforts we have made with our eclectic group on council.”

Councilman Doug Morrow was elected Vice-Mayor and David Rutt was reappointed as City Solicitor. The Workforce Development Commissions were also renewed for another year.
