Multiple Charges Following Incident

 

On May 27, 2017 at approximately 0058 hours, Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to an altercation that occurred in the Brightway Commons Development Milford, DE. Police state that they learned that the suspect, Jamaal Artis, 35 of Milford, DE, had allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim that became physical. Artis allegedly did damage to the victim’s cell phone with a hammer while a child was present during the incident. Artis allegedly was being disorderly outside of the residence and created alarm to other residents in the development. According to police, investigation revealed that he allegedly threatened to kill the victim. Artis was taken into custody by patrol officers without incident.

Once back at Milford PD, it was learned that Artis had allegedly posted inappropriate photographs of the victim on a social media site after the incident without the victim’s consent or knowledge. Artis was charged with Possessing a Destructive Weapon, Privacy Violation, Terroristic Threatening, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Offensive Touching, Criminal Mischief Under $1000 Damage Property, Disorderly Conduct, and Failure to Comply with Taking of Photos and Fingerprints. Artis was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,300 USC secured bail and $1000.00 cash bail. Artis was ordered to appear in Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date for a preliminary hearing.
