On Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 6 to 9 PM, Meals on Wheels Delaware plans to hold its 4th Annual “Sip & Savor” fund raiser. The event, which is presented by the Dover Federal Credit Union, will be held at the Wild Quail Golf and Country Club near Dover.
“Kent County’s End of Summer Party is an evening of great food and fun,” Jennifer Halliday, Marketing and Design Coordinator for Meals on Wheels, said. “It includes interactive chef stations, craft beer tastings, wine and spirits, live music and our ever popular silent and live auctions. It is the end of summer party you don’t want to miss!”
Ms. Halliday said that a DJ will be provided by Authentic Entertainment. We wanted to hold a fun, casual event in Kent County. Because culinary events fit with the mission of Meals on Wheels, this was a natural choice for a fundraising event.
“The mission of Meals on Wheels Delaware is to raise private funds for allocation to member agencies with meal delivery programs,” Ms. Halliday said. “By providing both financial and human resources, we will ensure uninterrupted delivery of meals to senior Delawareans in the comfort of their homes.”
Meals on Wheels Delaware is a nonprofit organization working with five-meal providing agencies and thousands of volunteers from corporate, civic, religious and community groups. The Meals On Wheels programs provide and deliver meals every day to over 4,000 homebound seniors. In 2016, volunteers delivered over 727,000 meals throughout the state. Meals on Wheels Delaware contributes to the partnership by providing additional financial and volunteer resources to agency providers to ensure that seniors throughout Delaware are given the support they need.
“Meals on Wheels provides more than a meal,” Ms. Halliday said. “It also provides the gift of health, independence and companionship to homebound seniors in Delaware.” There are five different meal-providing agencies throughout the state who receive funding from Meals on Wheels Delaware, the Modern Maturity Center, CITY Fare/St. Anthony Center, the Newark Senior Center, CHEER and Meals On Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth.
In addition to the Sip & Savor event, Meals on Wheels Delaware plans to hold a Guest Bartending Happy Hour at the Starboard in Dewey Beach on September 21 and the 15th Annual Celebrity Chef’s Beach Brunch on October 1st in Dewey Beach. There are also events planned in the New Castle area in October and November to help raise funds for the meal programs supported by Meals on Wheels Delaware.
