DMI Announces Façade Enhancement Grant

Downtown Milford, Inc. (DMI) is pleased to announce a new grant partnership with WSFS Bank. The $5,000 check, presented to DMI on July 31, will be used to fund the Sign, Awning, and Façade Enhancement Matching Grant Program.

This grant is open to merchants, business owners, and property owners in Milford’s downtown commercial district and will specifically be used for their street facing sign and awning purchases as well as façade enhancements. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply for up to $500 in matching funds. Applications are available at the DMI office at 207 S. Walnut St. or by calling 302-839-1180 or emailing

“We are very excited to partner with WSFS Bank on this new Sign, Awning, and Façade Enhancement Matching Grant Program,” stated Lisa Fitzgerald, DMI Board President. “It will help beautify our downtown commercial district as well as bolster economic vitality in the City of Milford – two key components of a Main Street organization.”

Working together, the DMI Economic Vitality Committee will recruit businesses to apply for the grant and the Design Committee will review all grant applications. Once approved and so the community is aware, a sign will be posted during and one month after project completion indicating that the project is funded in part by DMI Matching Grant Program and WSFS Bank.

This matching grant is in addition to DMI’s growing lineup of business resources:
DMI’s Revolving Loan Fund, funded by the USDA, is available to entrepreneurs interested in opening or expanding a business within DMI’s boundaries.
The Five for Free program encourages downtown businesses and property owners to enhance the appearance of their buildings. The program reimburses half of the cost of paint required for the job, up to five gallons.
The Downtown Milford Entrepreneur Network is an opportunity for local business owners to share business development ideas and discuss overall economic growth in Milford. This Network also organizes the monthly Third Thursday events and meets every fourth Tuesday of the month from 9-10am at the Mispillion Art League. All are welcome.
The Downtown Development District (DDD), a state-funded program through the City of Milford, includes 170 acres of land centered on the City’s Central Business District and the Mispillion River and includes up to 20 percent rebates of “hard costs,” historic preservation tax credits, waiver of City impact fees, building permit fees, realty transfer taxes and property tax abatements.
