The section between Dupont Highway (US 113) and Ashley Way will reopen to traffic on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Section D1 between Ashley Way and Cascades Lane will be closed to traffic on August 22, 2017. The rehabilitation of this section includes subbase repair, subbase paving, new inlets, installation of handicapped ramps, curb replacement, concrete island removal, and sidewalk improvements. Traffic during this phase will be directed to Bowman Road and to US 113.
The overall project includes pavement base repair, drainage improvements and pavement overlay of approximately 1.4 miles of Airport Road between DuPont Boulevard (US 113) and Canterbury Road (DE 15). Work on the projected $2.4 million-dollar project is expected to be completed by December 17, 2017. The pavement base repair and drainage improvements will necessitate a full closure of the roadway during construction.
Upon completion of all roadway subbase repair and drainage work, and final top coat of asphalt will be laid over the entire roadway, which will occur between December 1 and December 17.
The sectional closures in the future are anticipated as follows:
Phase C2 – Between Cascades Lane and People’s Place entrance. This phase will be done to provide access to businesses and residences along the roadway. Traffic during this phase will be directed to Bowman Road and to US 113 beginning September 5 through September 18.
Phase C 1 – Between Bowman Road and People’s Place entrance. This phase will be done in two sections to provide access to businesses and will divert traffic using Canterbury, Bowman, and US 113. Projected time frame is September 18 through October 6.
Phase B – Between Delaware Veterans Blvd and Canterbury Road. Traffic during this phase will be directed to Bowman Road and to US 113 beginning October 5 through November 8.
Phase A – Between Delaware Veterans Blvd and Bowman Road. During this phase the detour will be through the Milford Industrial Park using Mullet Run and Brent Jordan Way, and will be done in two separate phases to allow access to the Jehovah Witness Church beginning November 5 through November 30.
