On Monday, September 4, dog lovers and their best friends were invited to Killens Pond Water Park to have some fun in the sun. Occurring on the last day before the pool shuts down for the season, Puppies in the Pool hosted 165 dogs, their largest crowd to date.
“We found out a few years ago that inviting our four legged friends to a pool party at our waterpark is the perfect way to end the pool season,” said Jayce Madden, Park Manager Killens Pond State Park.
Dogs and their owners enjoyed an afternoon of swimming in the Water Park’s three pools. The Water Park features a main pool and baby pool, each with a zero-depth entry, and a Tot Lot for younger children. Each pool has fountains, bubblers or other interactive water features.
Since all dogs that entered the facility had to show their State license, local business Fur-baby Boutique,Daycare, Spa & Hotel was on hand to register dogs that had not been licensed through the State of Delaware. “We were so happy to be helpful and meet new fur-iends,” said Sherry Shupe, owner of Fur-Baby Boutique. “It was exciting to see so many dogs having so much fun together in the water.”
On their way out of the park, attendees received doggie bags from Fur-Baby including all natural treats and food as well as literature featuring their daycare and hotel services. Shupe reminded pet owners that if they need vaccinations, they can visit the Milford location in downtown Milford as the business provides a Discount Vaccination Clinic every two weeks.
Madden states that although the pool event signals the end of the pool season, State Parks are wonderful resources for canine and human activities. “Killens Pond State Park is the perfect place for dog lovers. We welcome pets at our campground, dog training area and on our many trails,” said Madden.
Killens Pond State Park is located at 5025 Killens Pond Road in Felton. More information about the new schedule and programs are available by calling 302-284-4299. Information about other programs and events at the park can be found at destateparks.com.
