Downtown Milford, Inc. (DMI) is excited to host the City of Milford’s 230th Birthday Celebration at their monthly Third Thursday event on Thursday, September 21 from 5 to 8pm. From 5pm to 7pm, Downtown Milford businesses will be open with extended hours and shoppers, visitors, and attendees can collect maroon and gold paper strips from the open merchants. Once collected, attendees can add their paper strips to the paper chain on the Riverwalk. The completed chain and a Happy Birthday, Milford banner will create a festive frame for a town photo. The photo will be taken by drone at 7:15pm along the Riverwalk between Washington St. and the Santa House.
To add to the celebration, attendees are encouraged to wear maroon and gold to demonstrate their Milford pride. Those in maroon and gold will receive discounts at Petite Sweets on maroon and gold cake pops, Irish Rose (10% off), Milford Antiques (10% off), Novel Tea
Nook (10% off), and Coolspring Cottage (10% off all regular priced items). Lifecycle is joining the fun with Buccaneer-themed events including cardboard pirate sword crafts, eye patches, and pirate games. Kam Productions, 302 horseshoe crab designs will have a booth in the Lifecycle parking lot premiering their fall line of apparel.
Milford Public Library has graciously opened their outdoor, yet covered portico, near the amphitheater, so the community can decorate free birthday hats with I Love Milford and birthday stickers from 5pm to 7pm. Volunteers will be on-site to help with the hat decorating and markers and stickers will be available to decorate the hats. Shoppers are encouraged to make a purchase at any of the downtown businesses that day, bring the receipt to the hat decorating area, and receive a chance to win the History of Milford raffle, graciously donated by the Milford Museum.
In addition to the town photo at 7:15pm, attendees will have the opportunity to light and hold a candle, donated by Avenue United Methodist Church, and sing Happy Birthday, followed by a cake cutting in the Farmers Market area by Mayor Bryan Shupe. Candles and cake will be limited to the first 100 and 200 people, respectively. A special thanks to Milford LIVE for donating the two cakes for this event.
Food trucks include Rosenfeld’s Jewish Deli, Mr. Bar B Que, Po’ Boys Creole Food Truck, and Vanderwende Farm Creamery on Walnut St. In addition, Carl’s Gourmet Hot’s, The Cheese Board, and Nash’s Farm Stand will be set-up in the park, Dixie’s Down Home Cooking food truck will be in the Lifecycle parking lot, and the Novel Tea Nook will be selling ice cream in their parking lot on the corner of SW Front and Church Streets.
The Milford Museum is hosting a free ice cream social and Abbott’s Mill Nature Center will be onsite at Lifecycle talking programs and selling beer to support their trails and those programs.
