Welfare Check Leads To DUI Arrest

On 09/07/2017 at 9:12 p.m., the Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to a check the welfare at Wawa located at 902 N DuPont Blvd. Milford, DE 19963. It was advised that a white female who had been operating a blue Toyota Camry, seemed to be under the influence and was falling asleep inside the vehicle with a child in the back seat. As officers were arriving on scene, they observed the vehicle exiting the Wawa parking lot and entering onto NW Front St. The vehicle began to travel southbound on N DuPont Blvd. Officers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the operator. Further investigation revealed that the operator was an Elizabeth Holston, 34 of Milford, DE. During the initial contact Holston showed signs of being under the influence. After additional investigation was completed, Holston was arrested for Driving under the Influence of Drug. A search incident to arrest, revealed that Holston was in possession of several prescription bottles and over the counter medication. Holston also had a small juvenile in the vehicle with her.

Holston was charged with Driving Under The Influence Of Drug, Endangering The Welfare Of A Child While DUI, and for a traffic violation. Holston was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court 7. She was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $2250.00 USC secured bail. She was ordered to appear in Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date in reference to this case. The small juvenile was turned over to a responsible adult.
