Carlos Estrada of La Hacienda said that his company decided to open a new location in Milford because they believe that the town needs a gathering place “with a flair.” He said that the company also believes that Milford is a vibrant town with a growing economic base and that La Hacienda wants to share their Mexican kitchen with the town as Milford celebrates its 230th year. The new restaurant will take over the former Hometown Diner location at 611 N. Dupont Boulevard.
“Right now, we are performing some deep cleaning and painting in the building,” Mr. Estrada said. “But the biggest change will be the addition of a brand new bar serving local beer from surrounding Delaware breweries, fresh, handmade margaritas that will include top-shelf tequila and a game room that will include shuffleboard, foosball and darts, just to name a few features of the new restaurant.”
The first La Hacienda opened in 2015, quickly gaining a strong following in Dover. Estrada contributes the growth of the business to satisfied customers and says that it indicates the quality of the food and the customer service.
“We feel that [satisfied customers] are the biggest compliment that can be given in the restaurant business,” Mr. Estrada said. “Freshness, consistency, and cleanliness have been and remain the major components of our success.”
La Hacienda is a family-owned business as the family has been in Delaware since 1993. Mr. Estrada said that it had always been his father’s dream to open a restaurant, instilling a strong work ethic in his children. Estrada attended the University of Delaware after graduating from high school, studying in the Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management program. He was trained by Marriott International and says he learned a lot about the operational requirements of hospitality management in the ten years he worked for the company. He began his restaurant experience working for Ruby Tuesday and Don Pablo’s.
“Our main goal is to bring comfort food to our guests,” Estrada said. “I wanted to share the experience of my friends coming over to my family’s home, enjoying my mother’s food. Simple as that. So, that’s what we do at La Hacienda. We bring my experiences from corporate restaurants and the comfort food of my mother’s kitchen, together as one. This recipe has spelled success for us in Dover and it is my belief that Milford is the next step for us to grow and share this experience.”
A grand opening is planned for early November. The same menu that is offered at the Dover location will be offered in Milford, although Estrada says that there will be lunch and dinner specials when the new location opens.
