On December 1, 2017 at approximately 3:42 pm, officers from the Milford Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to South DuPont Boulevard (US Rt 113) in the area of Old Shawnee Road to a report of a motor vehicle collision. During the investigation into the collision one of the operators was suspected to be operating one of the vehicles involved under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation, which included field sobriety tests, led to Mervin Sales-Perez, 31 of Georgetown being taken into custody. Mr. Sales-Perez initially provided officers with a false name, but officers were eventually able to positively identify Mr. Sales-Perez. Mr. Sales-Perez has been charged with Criminal Impersonation, Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Without a Valid License, Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession, and Inattentive Driving. Mr. Sales-Perez was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #3 in Georgetown, where bail was set at $2003.00 secured. Mr. Sales-Perez was committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction at the Sussex Correctional Institution. Mr. Sales-Perez is scheduled for a bail review on 12.04.2017 at the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas. The operator of the other vehicle involved in this collision was transported by Carlisle Fire Company personnel to Bayhealth to be treated for minor injuries.
