VFW Supports National Home for Children

By Chuck Werner

This was VFW Post 6483’s second year going to the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, MI. The event known as Cootie Christmas was held on the weekend of December 1 through 2. This event is for children to meet Santa and receive their gifts. The Military Order Of The Cooties (MOC) is the Honor Degree team of the VFW. In addition to visits to the National Home, they also visit veterans in VA Hospitals and nursing homes. Their motto is “KEEP THEM SMILING IN BEDS OF WHITE”. On Friday evening the toys are moved from the VFW Fire House on fire trucks to the homes located throughout the campus where they were delivered to the children. On Saturday the children, their family members and guests gathered at the multi-purpose hall so the children can enjoy a lunch and meet Santa.

This is one of the causes that the Milford VFW Post 6483 supports with our fundraisers and dinners. When individuals see proceeds help “Support Veterans Programs” on posters or flyers, they can know that they are supporting the VFW National Home for Children. On Saturday evening there was a banquet where the Milford VFW post made a financial donations to help pay for the cost of next year’s Cootie Christmas for the children.
