On January 8, 2017 at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to the Remax Office located in the 100 block of N Washington St. Milford, Kent County, DE for a disorderly conduct complaint. Officers made contact with staff who advised that two subjects (one male and one female) entered into their business and went into the bathroom. The staff advised that they began to hear noise coming from the bathroom. The staff advised that water then began to pour out from the bathroom. Officers made contact with a Lauren Merchant, 36 of Milford, DE, and Darrell Ayer, 26 of Milton, DE, who were inside the bathroom. Officers then observed that a water pipe was damaged and water was pouring out. Officers were able to determine that both Merchant and Ayer were intoxicated. Both Ayer and Merchant were taken into custody by Officers.
Ayer and Merchant were both charged with Criminal Mischief Under $1000 Damage Property and Disorderly Conduct. Both had presentments through the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution due to their intoxication. Once Ayer and Merchant were sober, they would be arraigned on the charges related to this case.
