Blockbuster Movie Season Is Back

Guest Writer, Petch, Eagle 977 in the Morning

I always love the start of the new year and all the promises of those exciting Movie Blockbusters, This year I am really pumped for what could be our best year in a while.

The Black Panther

First up is Black Panther, Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Forest Whitaker, The Black Panther was created by Stan Lee and the character fought along Captain America, The Avengers and The Fantastic Four. The Black Panther is considered the first black hero in mainstream comics. The story follows T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) who after the death of his father returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, he drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. The trailers for this movie look awesome, Totally action packed and with a great storyline, This movie opens this upcoming weekend on February 16th and it’s expected to gross around $150 on it’s opening weekend.

Death Wish

A reboot of the 1974 classic that starred Charles Bronson as Paul Kersey a New York City architect who became a one man vigilante after his wife was murdered and then he goes out and kills criminals at night seeking vengeance. The reboot story is kind of the same but now Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of Chicago violence when it is rushed into his ER until his wife and college-age daughter are viciously attacked in their home. With the police drawing blanks in the case, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly vigilante is a guardian angel or a grim reaper. Some movies should never be rebooted, But with Bruce Willis in the starring role this movie looks like a home run with some good old beat them up, Punch them up action. Bruce Willis always shines in this kind of role and I cannot wait to see this one.

Tomb Raider

And we have another slice of reboot action, But again like Death Wise this looks pretty awesome too, Alicia Vikander takes on the role of Lara Croft which was made famous by Angelina Jolie. Alicia Vikander actually did a lot of her own stunts in this movie, I watched a behind the scenes video on you tube and there is something very cool about actors and actresses who do their own stunts for movies. In this reboot Lara Croft the daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was young. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. So she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination a fabled tomb on a mythical island somewhere off the coast of Japan. If she survives this adventure, it could be the making of her and earning her the name tomb raider. This movie looks like a real rollercoaster ride of non stop action and from what I have seen from the trailers and the behind the scenes video, it puts the Angelina Jolie original well and truly in the shadows, I expect this movie to gross very well on its opening weekend.

So these are my picks for the first big blockbusters of 2018, I hope you get to see them because I know I will be. See you at the movies.
