Man Arrested On Theft Charges

On 02/19/2018 at approximately 1636 hours, the Milford Police Department Patrol Division responded to Abbott’s Grill located at 249 NE Front St. reference to a theft report. Contact was made with an employee at the business, who advised that another employee had stated that he would not be returning to work because he would be in trouble for stealing checks from the business. Management staff checked their records and observed several checks had been written out to the suspect for large amounts of U.S. Currency (USC) and the checks were allegedly signed by representatives of the company. Investigation revealed the signatures on the checks did not match the actual signatures of those representatives. Further investigation revealed that the checks were cashed at a local retail shop nearby. Investigation revealed that the amount taken from the business was over $1500.00 USC. The suspect was identified as Jonathan Wright, 29 of Milford, DE. A warrant was obtained for Wright as a result of this investigation.

On 02/20/2018, Wright was taken into custody at his residence without incident. He was charged with two counts of Forgery 2nd Degree, one count of Theft by False Pretense Over $1500 USC, and one count of Theft Over $1500 USC. He had a presentment through the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was released on $4000.00 USC unsecured bail with a no contact order with the victims in this case . He was ordered to appear in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date for a preliminary hearing.
