On 03.16.2018 at approximately 2:09 am, the Milford Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to an apartment on Tull Way in the Brightway Commons Apartment Complex to a report of a home invasion. Investigation revealed the suspect forced his way through a locked apartment door and entered into the apartment. Once inside, the suspect jumped on the back of the victim, prevented them from calling the police and removed several items from the apartment. The victim was uninjured during this incident.
Later that morning, the Patrol Division was dispatched to the area of Route 113 Northbound and Seabury Ave for a check the welfare. Officers made contact with a subject, who matched the description of the home invasion suspect. During the check the welfare incident, the subject was identified as Anthony Rufus, 29 of Milton, DE. Officers detained Rufus for further investigation. Rufus was positively identified by the victim as the suspect in the home invasion through a photo line-up.
Rufus was charged with Home Invasion, Robbery 2nd Degree, Malicious Interference Emergency Communications Intentionally Prevent Or Hinder, Offensive Touching, and Criminal Mischief Under $1000. He had a presentment through Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to the Department of Corrections in default of $25,000.00 USC secured bail. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim. He was also ordered to appear at a later date in Kent County Court of Common Pleas for a Preliminary Hearing.
