On Saturday, April 21 Comcast employees along with local volunteers were busy at Milford Little League Park. Preparing the park for the upcoming season, volunteers painted dugouts and buildings, picked up trash and debris, helped remove old signs while also refurbishing the centerfield bleachers, installed a new flagpole, repaired the batting cage and assembled new picnic tables. The event is part of Comcast Cares Day, a celebration of Comcast NBCUniversal’s year-round commitment to volunteerism.
This year the Milford Little League will be hosting Boys Major League All Stars State Championship. Local resident and organizer or the event Johnny Howard says this project helps create and cultivate a healthy relationship between residents and the business community.
“It is a great way to give back and be involved in your own community,” he said. “Even if its an hour or two here and there, volunteering is a great thing to teach our children and for companies giving back to the community where their customers live.”
In addition to providing the manpower to beatify the Milford Little League park, Comcast will also provide a grant from the Comcast Foundation. For each volunteer, Comcast will also donate $15 per person to the Milford Little League the following spring. Howard hopes that this partnership can continue for the benefit of the next generation.
“This project really resonates with me, hopefully one day my daughter will be playing on these exact fields,” said Howard. “It’s a great way to give back and be involved in your community.”
