Arrested For Violation of PFA

On 04-28-2018 at approximately 6:34 a.m., The Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to a 911 disconnect in the 100 Block of SE 3rd St. Officers responded to the residence and made contact with a distraught victim. The victim advised that the suspect, Juan Vasquez-Matos, 28 of Milford, DE, who was still on scene, had responded to the residence unannounced and engaged in a physical altercation with the victim when he attempted to enter into the residence. During the altercation, the victim attempted to prevent Vasquez-Matos from entering the residence and also attempted to contact 911, but Vasquez-Matos lunged towards the victim and took the phone from the victim. In the process of doing this, he also struck the victim in the face. Further investigation revealed that there was an active PFA between Vasquez-Matos and the victim that was issued in March 2018. Officers took Vasquez-Matos into custody without incident.

Vasquez-Matos was charged with Malicious Interference Emergency Communications Intentionally Prevent Or Hinder, Offensive Touching, and Criminal Contempt Of A Domestic Violence Protective Order. Officers learned that Vasquez-Matos was under the influence of alcohol and due to this, he could not have a presentment before a judge. Due to this, the Justice of the Peace Court Judge committed him to the Department of Corrections until he was sober for a presentment on the charges. Vasquez-Matos had a presentment later on 04/28/2018 and was released from the Department of Corrections on $2000.00 USC unsecured bail with a no contact order with the victim. He was ordered to appear in Sussex County Family Court at a later date.
