Delaware Technical Community College’s softball team may have just barely missed qualifying for the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIX Tournament, but the team did have four players earn All-Region honors.

Freshman Megan Fry and sophomore Brooke Stoeckel were named First Team All-Region, while freshmen Madison McGee and Elizabeth Smith were named Second Team All-Region.

Fry, from Milford, a graduate of Milford High School, had an amazing season leading Delaware Tech with a .457 batting average with 37 hits, five home runs, and 33 RBI. Stoeckel, from Georgetown, a graduate of Sussex Central High School, followed her All-Region freshman season with an equally stellar sophomore campaign, batting .363 with 33 hits, three home runs, and 27 RBI.

McGee, from Dagsboro, an Indian River High School graduate, locked down first base for the team throughout the season and finished the year with a .978 fielding percentage, as well as a solid .356 batting average. Smith, from Bear, a Caravel Academy graduate, played solid at third base throughout the season and batted .329 for the year.

“Despite not making the regional tournament we had an outstanding softball season,” Collegewide Athletics Coordinator Tom Lemon said. “Having three freshman named All-Region gives the team a great foundation to build upon for next year.”
