Shoplifting Incident Results In DUI Arrest

On 05/07/2018 at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to a shoplifting investigation at Dollar General, located at 656 N DuPont Blvd. Milford, Kent County, DE 19963. Officers were advised that a female suspect had allegedly shoplifted from the store and then fled from the store in a white Ford Focus. When officers arrived in the area, they located the White Ford Focus driving in the shopping center parking lot in the area of Dollar General. Officers then observed the vehicle park in a parking space near Dollar General and officers made contact with the female operator/suspect, who was identified as Brittany O’Neal, 26 of Milford, DE. When officers made contact with O’Neal, they detected a strong odor of an alcohol coming from O’Neal. Officers also detected other signs of impairment while speaking with O’Neal. Due to these signs of impairment being present, officers conducted the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests with O’Neal. Results of those tests along with further testing revealed that O’Neal was under the influence of alcohol. O’Neal was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Milford PD.

O’Neal was charged with Shoplifting Under $1500 and Driving A Vehicle Under The Influence Of Alcohol. Due to O’Neal’s intoxication, the Justice of the Peace Court committed her to the custody of the Department of Corrections until she was sober to have a presentment in front of the court. Milford PD later learned that O’Neal was arraigned through the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and was released on $350.00 USC unsecured bail with a future court date in Kent County Court of Common Pleas.
