Local mortgage banker Robert Mitchell is running to represent the 35th District in State House of Representatives. The Greenwood Republican is seeking the seat, vacated by Representative Dave Wilson, who will be running for the 18th District Senate seat.
A lifelong Delawarean, Mitchell seeks to bring his experience in the finance and mortgage industry to promote a conservative and transparent fiscal policy for the Delaware budget.
“My votes will be for efforts that keep our state competitive when attracting and retaining employers, says Mitchell. “I want to promote policies that do not burden future generations while supporting economic policies that attract good employers to our district.”
Mitchell, who has served on the Delmarva Christian School Board for six years, is no stranger to the education system as well.
“Protecting our children and empowering them for success is one of the most important jobs out there if you ask me,” says Mitchell, who has raised three children in the 35th district with his wife of 30 years. “Allowing schools more control over where they allocate resources and reducing wasted resources on things that affect such a small margin of the population within our district will assure that school funding is spent on exactly what it should be—building a solid educational foundation so that our children can turn their education into a good career.”
“I talk to a lot of people in my profession and really getting to know and understand their circumstances has taught me so much about so many things within this district that I call home,” says Mitchell. “From finances, education and agriculture, to healthcare, public safety and infrastructure to name a few, I plan to focus on what’s really important to constituents in the 35th district. Whether you’re on one side of the aisle or the other, it doesn’t really matter because we’re all in this together. I plan to make our state a better place by finding common sense solutions to real world problems.”
The statewide primary election is set for Thursday, Sept. 6. The deadline to register to vote for the primary is Saturday, Aug. 11. The 35th Representative District covers the northwest corner of Sussex County and includes all or parts of Bridgeville, Greenwood, Ellendale and Georgetown.
