Firefly Music Festival, the east coast’s largest music and camping festival, is returning to The Woodlands for the seventh year June 14 through 17. Along with headliners Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys, and The Killers, the lineup also features ODESZA, Lil Wayne, Logic, Martin Garrix, SZA, alt-J, Portugal. The Man, Foster the People, MGMT and Mike D.
Milford resident TJ Millman has attended the festival for three years. “I love music in general, I’m constantly trying to find concerts to go to, and having a festival so close to home is just optimal,” he said. “Even if I don’t know a band I will stop and listen. I just love music.”
Millman said he is most excited to see The Killers, Vance Joy, and Kendrick Lamar, but states that his “inner child” cannot wait to see Eminem and Lil Wayne. “When I was in middle, high school they were two of the biggest rappers, and even though I don’t listen to their music much anymore, it will be awesome to finally see them live,” he said.
An avid music fan, Millman enjoys the festival atmosphere as much as the music. “Growing up life tends to get busy, but for one weekend I can sit in the grass, listen to music, and laugh with my best friends,” he said. “When you pass through those gates, you leave everything behind you and nothing can bring you down. It’s truly a one of a kind feeling.”
Lindsay Adams of the Carlisle Fire Company in Milford will be working as an EMT on site at the festival, for festival goers that need any medical treatment. It will be her first year working at Firefly. She has been with Carlisle a little over a year but served in local fire companies for over 5 years. She is looking forward to this unique experience.
“My favorite part [of being in the fire department] is I never stop learning, everything is a challenge and not one thing is always the same in the field of fire and ems but that’s what keeps it interesting,” said Adams. “ I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of people from all different back grounds and getting to do what I love which is helping those in need.”
The 2018 festival will feature the return of staple Firefly attractions including The Market, The Thicket, The Coffee House and the Dogfish Head Brewery.. Firefly is once again partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the seventh consecutive year and various initiatives will benefit their Music Gives to St. Jude Kids program. Founded in 2012, Firefly Music Festival is the east coast’s largest alt-rock, hip-hop and electronic music and camping festival, taking place annually in The Woodlands of Dover, DE. Firefly 2018 will take place June 14 through 17.
