Arrested For Multiple Shopliftings


On 07/11/2018, James Gowens, 49 of Felton, DE, charged with multiple counts of Shoplifting, Criminal Trespass, and Conspiracy 3rd Degree stemming from several shoplifting investigations that occurred at Walmart located at 939 N DuPont Blvd. Milford, Kent County, DE. Gowens was picked up by the Delaware State Police and turned over to Milford Police Department reference to the active warrants for his arrest.

Investigation revealed that Gowens had entered the store on approximately 4 occasions in the months of May and June 2018 and selected items from the lawn and garden area of the store. After selecting the items, Gowens would allegedly exit the store with the items through an emergency fire exit door that would sound an alarm when it was opened. All 4 incidents were captured on video surveillance. The investigation also revealed that Gowens had been banned from the store by Walmart Asset Protection Staff after previous shoplifting investigations. Gowens was positively identified by Walmart Asset Protection Staff and Officers of the Milford Police Department after dealings with him on prior shoplifting cases.

Gowens was charged with 4 counts of Shoplifting Under $1500 USC, 3 counts of Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree, one count of Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree and one count of Conspiracy 3rd Degree. It was also learned that Gowens had several active capiases for his arrest. Gowens had a presentment through the Justice of the Peace Court 7 where he was committed to the Department of Corrections in default of $3251.00 USC secured bail on the new charges and $3890.00 cash bail and $2000.00 secured bail on the outstanding capiases for his arrest. He was ordered to appear in Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date reference to the new charges and capiases.
