On 08/08/2018, at approximately 1627 hours, the Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to a fraud investigation at the Citizens Bank located at 610 N DuPont Blvd, Milford, DE 19963. Officers responded to the business and located the suspect that was attempting to exit the business. Officers contacted the subject and spoke with the bank teller and learned that the suspect had attempted to cash a check with a fake ID claiming to be another person. At first the suspect gave a false name but later advised officers that he was James Michael Patrick, 69 of North Carolina. Officers took Patrick into custody. Further investigation revealed that Patrick had a fake ID with the victim’s information on it and was attempting to cash a check that was made out to the victim. The bank contacted the company that issued a check, who sent over a photograph of the victim, who was not Patrick.
Patrick was charged with Identity Theft, Forgery 2nd Degree, and Attempted Theft By False Pretense Over $1500.00 USC. Further investigation also revealed that Patrick was wanted out of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Patrick had a presentment through the Justice of the Peace Court 7 and was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $9000.00 USC cash bail. Patrick was also issued a no contact order with all Citizen Bank locations. He was ordered to appear in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date reference to a preliminary hearing.
