Purcell Announces Senatorial District Run

Jim Purcell filed to run for the Delaware 18th Senatorial district, to fill the vacancy left by Senator Gary Simpson. Surrounded by family, friends and Senate Protem Senator David McBride, Jim was registered by Democratic Party Sussex County Chair, Jane Hovington. Purcell will face off against Rep. Dave Wilson in the November 6 General Election.

“It has been a lifelong dream to serve as an elected public servant and work to move the community and state forward,” said Jim Purcell. “I am honored to have the opportunity to run in an important race for the future of Sussex and Kent County. And I am thankful to the support of my family, friends and the Democratic Party leadership.”

Jim Purcell has over 25 years of experience in the public and private sector working in education, public policy and human services. He has both a Bachelors in Political Science/History and Masters of Public Administration from the University of Delaware.

As the candidacy became official in Georgetown alongside family and supporters, Purcell stated, “I want to thank Senator Gary Simpson for his years of service representing the 18th Senatorial District. I always considered him a great friend, mentor and true Delaware statesman for our community.”

Throughout Jim’s career in running non-profit organizations and working with elected officials, he has traveled the counties and state to build connections and hear from community members about their needs.

“I look forward to a positive and thoughtful dialogue with my opponent about the issues dear to the people of Northern Sussex and Southern Kent County,” stated Purcell. “I have already begun to hear from neighbors on concerns regarding the environment, economy and health care. I’m here to listen and hopefully be a voice for members of this exceptional district.”
