Karen Boone, the front desk secretary at Milford High School, has maroon and gold running through her veins. The first face anyone sees when they enter the school, Boone does more than just answer phones and greet people as they enter.
“Mrs. Boone is the first person most encounter when they come to Milford High School,” Shawn Snyder, Principal of Milford High School, said. “She sets a positive tone with every person she meets. At any given moment, Mrs. Boone is greeting a parent, answering the phone, checking a student schedule and counseling a struggling student. And she does this all with grace. She is truly a shining example of Buc Pride.”
Boone was born in Dover to her late parents, Hayes and Mary Fountain. She spent most of her life in Milford, graduating from Milford High School and then from Brandywine Junior College. She began working at Milford High School in 1996.
“The best part of my job is interacting with the students and encouraging them to do their best in their studies,” Boone said. “Time management is the most challenging part due to the multitasking I have to do constantly throughout my day. However, I enjoy the challenge as it is fulfilling and keeps my job interesting.”
When she is not at the front desk of the high school, Boone enjoys traveling and experiencing cuisine from different cultures. She likes to attend concerts and shows at Sight & Sound in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She is an active member of her church and spends much of her free time either at church-related activities or with family and close friends.
“Each summer, I look forward to our annual four-day family gathering in Virginia,” Boone said. “Cousins from many states come to relax and just enjoy being together once again.”
In addition to her duties at the high school, Boone is also on the Board of Elections for the City of Milford. The Board is responsible for ensuring that the election process in the City runs smoothly. Boone is often the Board member who announces the results of each City election.
Boone has two children, both of which entered the medical field after graduation. Her daughter, Kayla, is in nursing at Bayhealth in Milford while her son Jonathan is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with the Miami Dolphins.
“I intend to remain active and multitasking in whatever I do as I have throughout my career,” Boone said when asked what she planned to do when she eventually retired from the district. Luckily for Milford School District, Boone did not indicate that she planned to enter retirement any time soon.
