On 11/04/2018 at approximately 7:56 p.m., the Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to a possible burglary in progress in the 100 block of SE Second St. The reporting person advised that they observed approximately 3 sets of flashlights on in an abandoned residence. Officers responded to the residence and located three subjects inside the abandon residence. All three subjects were detained. Further investigation revealed that the one subject, identified as Antoine Sturgis, 35 of Georgetown, DE, had made contact with the other two subjects and told them that he had appliances for sale. Investigation revealed that the subjects then responded to the abandoned residence so that Sturgis could sell the appliances to the two subjects. Officers made contact with the property owner and learned that Sturgis had no ownership over the appliances he was trying to sell. Officers also learned that Sturgis did damage to a door at the residence.
Sturgis was charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Attempted Theft By False Pretense Under $1500 and Criminal Mischief Under $1000. Sturgis had a presentment through Justice of the Peace Court 3 and was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $1750.00 USC secured bail due to him be intoxicated. A no contact order was also issued between Sturgis and the victim. Sturgis was later released on unsecured bail and was ordered to appear in the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary hearing at a later date.
