Downtown Milford, Inc. will host its first Irish Music and Dance Concert on Friday, March 15. This new event will be held at the Jesus Love Temple, 106 S Walnut St., in Downtown Milford and will feature the Willie Lynch Band, McAleer School of Dance, and the Dover Police & Fire Pipes and Drums.

The McAleer School of Irish Dance was founded 50 years ago by Alice McAleer who sought to enrich the community by passing on her knowledge of Irish dance and culture. The Dover Police & Fire Pipes & Drums are all volunteers and honor those that have served and lost their lives in the line of duty. In addition, they to play at public gatherings and Pipe Major Mike O’Conner says, “It’s like wrestling a cat. It only has nine notes how hard can that be.” It takes five years to become an accomplished player.

On Saturday, March 16 the festivities continue with the 9th Annual St. Patrick’s Pub Crawl. A “toasting the town” tradition for the Milford community, this year’s Pub Crawl will feature downtown business hosting beverage tastings from local breweries, wineries and distilleries as well as family designated driver locations offering non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.

The downtown merchant host portion of the event is from 6 pm – 9 pm as DMI continues their commitment to highlighting Downtown Milford. Each business will feature a sampling of a unique drink or food and celebrate the holiday with a twist that reflects their specific business. The entire City of Milford keeps the Pub Crawl going throughout the night with entertainment and specials at downtown and uptown bars and restaurants.

The event encourages participants to walk through Downtown Milford wearing official Pub Crawl race bibs. The bibs are one size fits all, friendlier to the environment, available at all Host Merchants and the bottom tear off tag can be entered to win prizes.

Bib prices are $20 for bibs purchased prior to the event and the evening of the Pub Crawl, March 16, the price goes to $25. The bibs are on sale starting on Saturday, February 16 at Delaware Branding Company, Dolce Bakery & Coffee Shop, Fur Baby Boutique, Daycare & Spa, It’s About Time Clock Repair, Lifecycle, Milford Antiques & Friends, My Sister’s Fault, Red Bandana, Tax Chicks and The Nook in Downtown Milford. The Pub Crawl is sponsored by N.K.S. Distributors.

“It’s great to see so many people come out and enjoying Downtown Milford,” said DMI President and Pub Crawl co-chair Sara Pletcher. “The Pub Crawl is a great way for DMI to kick off the year, get people downtown, and showcase many of our merchants and craft breweries, distilleries and wineries. We have some new merchants and vendors participating this year so it will give people an opportunity to go somewhere new and taste something new.”

“The money raised through our generous Pub Crawl sponsors, hosts, and vendors also helps us fund DMI’s economic development activities in support of downtown,” Pletcher said. “The Pub Crawl brings many to Downtown Milford each year, with the opportunity to see the town’s beautiful and historic merchant district. Even if they don’t shop the night of the Crawl, people get a great sense of the community and hopefully will come back and visit again.”
