UPDATE** Milford Police Investigate A Burglary At Local Car Dealership

As in the original news release, all eight vehicles were recovered and as of Thursday, 08/15/2019, have been returned to I.G. Burton. Any questions regarding the recovered vehicles, can be forwarded to the I.G. Burton.

On 08/13/2019, a 15 year old juvenile, was taken into custody by Milford and Dover Police Departments in reference to the Burglary and subsequent theft of the motor vehicles from I.G. Burton. The juvenile was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Illegal Gang Participation, Theft $1500 Or Greater, 8 counts of Theft Of A Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief $5000 Or More Damage Property, Conspiracy 2nd Degree, and Theft Under $1500 (Deprive Person). The juvenile had a presentment through the Justice of the Peace Court 7 and was committed to the DSCYF: Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services: Stevenson House Detention Center in default of $33,000.00 USC secured bail. The juvenile was ordered to appear in Kent County Family Court for an arraignment at a later date.

On 08/15/2019, a 15 year old juvenile, whom Detectives had been able to connect to the Burglary and Theft of Motor Vehicles , was taken into custody of Delaware State Police. The juvenile was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Illegal Gang Participation, Theft $1500 Or Greater, 8 counts of Theft Of A Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief $5000 Or More Damage Property, Conspiracy 2nd Degree, and Theft Under $1500 (Deprive Person). The juvenile had a presentment through the Justice of the Peace Court 7 and was committed to the DSCYF: Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services: Stevenson House Detention Center in default of $3,850.00 USC secured bail. The juvenile was ordered to appear in Kent County Family Court for an arraignment at a later date.

 

 

Also on 08/15/2019, a third juvenile had been taken into custody by the Delaware State Police in connection with this incident. The juvenile was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Illegal Gang Participation, Theft $1500 Or Greater, 8 counts of Theft Of A Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief $5000 Or More Damage Property, Conspiracy 2nd Degree, and Theft Under $1500 (Deprive Person). Bond information for this juvenile was unavailable at time of this release.

This investigation is still an active and ongoing investigation. Future releases will be provided as warranted.

Original Post – On August 13th, 2019 at 0740 hrs, the Milford Police Department was called to investigate a burglary at IG Burton, located on N. Rehoboth Blvd. The investigation revealed that eight new vehicles were stolen from the dealership. The vehicles included 5-2019 Police Model Dodge Chargers with no emergency equipment, 2- 2019 Dodge Durangos and a Dodge RAM 2500 Quad Cab. The investigation quickly developed suspect leads. Those leads lead detectives to the Dover area. The Milford Police enlisted the assistance of Dover Police and the Delaware State Police as the investigation developed.

By 9:30pm on August 13th, the Dover Police Department had recovered ALL eight vehicles which were hidden throughout their city and the surrounding area. All eight vehicles are currently secured in various police impounds.

There are no public safety concerns as all vehicles were recovered by police.

Several juveniles and young adults were identified as suspects in this case. While all the vehicles have been recovered this is an open and active investigation.
