In an effort to raise funds in a way that is fun and collaborative for the community, Diamond Dance Company and Tatiana Akinfieva Dance Studio (TADA) are planning the inaugural Tutu Trot scheduled for October 5 from 9 to 12. The event is a family-friendly 5k that will take place in downtown Milford. The dance studio is asking participants to wear tutus as part of the run, although it is not a requirement.

“Downtown Milford is incredibly supportive of the arts and we just thought this would be a fun way to bring together the community,” Aimee String, Director, said. “We love the idea of seeing an army of runners and walkers in tutus making their way through the community. All proceeds from the race will benefit Diamond Dance Company and TADA.”

The organization is in the process of renovating the former Argo Building which will be used for their new training facility. In addition, String explained that the company plans to perform two full-length ballets this year.

“In December, we will perform our annual production of the Nutcracker Ballet and, then in the spring, we will be debuting our production of Cinderella,” String said. “Proceeds will help us with the renovation costs and production costs like costumes, new sets and lighting.”

As part of the 5k, food will be available, donated by various businesses for those who sign up. They also plan to have a fun contest for the most “special” tutu worn by the participants. Categories are currently being determined for the contest.

“Renovations are really picking up steam,” String explained. “We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. This week, we saw the installation of flooring and cabinets. I can’t believe how close we are to making this dream come true for so many young dancers. We expect to be dancing in our new state-of-the-art facility by October 1.”

Anyone interested in participating in the Tutu Trot can visit Trisportsevents.com and search for the event under the calendar on the site. Registration will also be available the day of registration. Early bird registration ends September 28. Anyone interested in donating to TADA and Diamond Dance Company can reach out to Nita Smith at jsmith19950@gmail.com.
